The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery, in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Medical Service,  unveiled a statue of Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, gunner, physician, and poet at the National Artillery Memorial on Green Island in Ottawa on May 3, 2015. McCrae Unveiling1Dedication of the statue marked the centenary of the writing of his world famous poem, In Flanders Fields, and recognizes John McCrae’s service as an artillery officer and as a medical officer.  
The event, which was the cornerstone of the national commemoration of The Second Battle of Ypres, included a parade, a remembrance service and the unveiling of the statue. Troops on parade were from The Royal Canadian Artillery, The Royal Canadian Medical Service and a contingent of Veterans representing various Veterans Associations.
