  1. CWO MAIDMENT JOINED THE CAF IN JAN 1981 AS A MEDICAL ASSISTANT AND AFTER COMPLETING BOTH BASIC AND MEDICAL TRAINING SHE WAS POSTED TO CFB EDMONTON. SUBSEQUENT POSTINGS WERE CFB LAHR, WHERE SHE WAS DEPLOYED TO QATAR IN SUPPORT OF THE PERSIAN GULF WAR, 1 FIELD AMBULANCE CFB CALGARY, WHICH INCLUDED A DEPLOYMENT TO THE FORMER YUGOSLAVIA. IN 1995 AS A NEW MOM SHE WAS POSTED TO CFB MOOSE JAW FOLLOWED BY A POSTING TO CFB GREENWOOD WHICH INCLUDED DEPLOYMENTS TO GOLAN HEIGHTS, ISRAEL AND THE UNITED ARAB EMERATES.  IN 2003 SHE WAS POSTED TO OTTAWA AND UPON PROMOTION TO CWO SHE WAS POSTED TO HEALTH SERVICES CENTRE ATLANTIC.  AFTER A SHORT STAY IN HALIFAX HER NEXT STOP WAS CFB BORDEN AS THE CF HEALTH SERVICES TRAINING CENTRE CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER. IN 2013 CWO MAIDMENT JOINED THE ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE STAFF IN OTTAWA AS A MEMBER OF DIRECTOR AIR PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT WHERE SHE REPRESENTED RCAF NON COMMISSIONED MEMBERS IN REGARDS TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS.  IN JUNE 2016 CWO MAIDMENT ASSUMED THE DUTIES AS 9 WING CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER.

 

  1. CWO MAIDMENT WILL RETURN TO OTTAWA WHERE SHE WILL CONTINUE TO ENJOY RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES AND EXPLORE NEW LOCATIONS THROUGH TRAVEL WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

  1. LCOL TYLER BROOKS WILL BE RETIRING FROM THE CAF ON 09 DEC 2018 AFTER 26 YEARS OF SERVICE.
  2. ON 23 JUN 1992, TYLER ENROLLED IN THE REGULAR OFFICER TRAINING PLAN AS A PILOT.  HE ATTENDED THE ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE OF CANADA IN KINGSTON AND COMPLETED A BACHELOR OF ARTS IN MILITARY AND STRATEGIC STUDIES IN 1996, AND A MASTER OF ARTS IN WAR STUDIES IN 1998. TYLER COMPLETED BASIC FLYING TRAINING ON THE SECOND LAST COURSE OPERATING THE VENERABLE CT114 TUTOR JET IN MOOSE JAW, SASKATCHEWAN,  AND COMPLETED HELICOPTER PILOT TRAINING IN PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, MANITOBA, ON THE CH139 JET RANGER. TYLER JOINED 427 SQUADRON IN PETAWAWA, WHERE HE FLEW THE CH146 GRIFFON HELICOPTER, WHICH INCLUDED AN OPERATIONAL TOUR IN BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA.
  3. IN 2004, TYLER WAS SELECTED FOR THE MILITARY MEDICAL TRAINING PLAN, AND COMPLETED MEDICAL SCHOOL AT QUEENS UNIVERSITY KINGSTON IN 2008 AND HIS FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY IN 2010. TYLER SERVED AS A MEDICAL OFFICER AT 31 HEALTH SERVICES CENTRE BORDEN UNTIL 2013 WHEN HE WAS POSTED TO CANADIAN FORCES HEALTH SERVICES HEADQUARTERS IN OTTAWA AS A STAFF OFFICER TO THE DIRECTOR OF HEALTH SERVICES PERSONNEL. WITH A PREDICTABLE PASSION FOR AEROSPACE MEDICINE, TYLER COMPLETED THE DIPLOMA IN AVIATION MEDICINE AT KING’S COLLEGE LONDON IN 2014, AND WAS POSTED AS THE FLIGHT SURGEON TO THE DIRECTOR OF FLIGHT SAFETY, WHERE HE WAS AN AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT INVESTIGATOR FROM 2014 TO 2018. DURING THAT TIME, TYLER BECAME THE FIRST DIPLOMATE AFFILIATE OF THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS OF CANADA IN AEROSPACE MEDICINE, AND PARTICIPATED IN THE CREATION OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE FATIGUE RISK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND CRASH SCENE HAZARD MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. TYLER WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE CANADIAN FORCES HEALTH SERVICES HEADQUARTERS IN 2018 AS THE SENIOR STAFF OFFICER TO THE SURGEON GENERAL, THE POSITION FROM WHICH HE RETIRES.
  4. TYLER WILL BE JOINING THE PUBLIC SERVICE WITH TRANSPORT CANADA AS THE SENIOR CONSULTANT FOR POLICY AND STANDARDS, CIVIL AVIATION MEDICINE. OTTAWA WILL CONTINUE TO BE HOME FOR TYLER AND HIS WIFE MELISSA, AS WELL AS THEIR CHILDREN, OWEN, CHARLOTTE, AND JOSEPHINE.

  1. AFTER NEARLY 37 YEARS OF SERVICE IN THE CAF, COLONEL GISELE FONTAINE WILL RETIRE ON 13 FEBRUARY 2018.
  2. COLONEL FONTAINE ENROLLED IN THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES AS A RESERVIST IN 1981 UNDER THE RESERVE ENTRY SCHEME OFFICER PROGRAMME AS A COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING OFFICER WITH THE 713 COMMUNICATION REGIMENT IN BEAUPORT, QUEBEC. SHE COMPLETED HER DIPLOMA IN NURSING FROM CEGEP FRANGOIS-XAVIER GARNEAU IN QUEBEC CITY IN 1982 AND TRANSFERRED TO THE REGULAR FORCE IN 1984 AS A NURSING OFFICER UNDER THE DIRECT ENTRY OFFICER PLAN, JUST AS HER FATHER WAS
  3. COLONEL FONTAINE SERVED IN A VARIETY OF NURSING POSITIONS AND IS THANKFUL FOR THE PRIVILEDGE OF TAKING CARE OF CAF MEMBERS DURING HER ASSISGNMENTS WITH THE CANADIAN FORCES HOSPITAL VALCARTIER, THE DUNDURN MILITIA TRAINING CAMP IN SASKATCHEWAN, TWO POSTINGS TO 2 FIELD AMBULANCE IN PETAWAWA, THE CANADIAN FORCES HOSPITAL OROMOCTO AND THE NATIONAL DEFENCE MEDICAL CENTRE IN OTTAWA. DURING HER TIME IN PETAWAWA, SHE COMPLETED AN OPS TASKING TO SOMALIA AS PART OF THE CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS DEBRIEFING TEAM IN 1993. IN 1996, SHE COMPLETED A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA AND WAS THEN POSTED TO THE G2 MEDICAL INTELLIGENCE POSITION AT THE MEDICAL GROUP HEADQUARTERS, WHICH INCLUDED SUPPORTING THE DIRECTORATE OF SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL INTELLIGENCE AND A SHORT SECONDMENT TO FINALIZE OP PHEONIX. WHEN POSTED TO THE CANADIAN FORCES MEDICAL SERVICE AND DENTAL SERVICE SCHOOLS IN BORDEN IN 2003 SHE BECAME A HEALTH SERVICES OPERATIONS OFFICER, EXPANDING HER FOCUS TO COMMAND, HEALTH SYSTEMS AND OPERATIONAL PLANNING. IN JANUARY 2005, WAS PROMOTED TO THE RANK OF LIEUTENANT-COLONEL AND APPOINTED COMMANDANT OF THE TWO SCHOOLS, CONTINUING WITH THE PROJECT TO INTEGRATE THEM AS A TRAINING CENTRE.  SHE THEN COMPLETED COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE IN TORONTO, INCLUDING A MASTERS IN DEFENCE STUDIES AND SUBSEQUENTLY BECAME THE SENIOR HS PLANNER FOR THE NEWLY ESTABLISHED CANOSCOM. IN JULY 2008, SHE WAS APPOINTED COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE CF HEALTH SERVICES CENTRE (OTTAWA), A COMMAND SHE HELD FOR FOUR YEARS. SHE SPEARHEADED THE RELOCATION OF THE HEALTH CENTER FROM NDMC TO THE NEW CLINIC ON MONTFORT CAMPUS AND ESTABLISHED THE UNIQUE PARTNERSHIP WITH MONTFORT HOSPITAL.
  5. AS A COLONEL, SHE WAS POSTED FOR ONE YEAR TO KABUL WITH THE NATO TRAINING MISSION AFGHANISTAN AND APPOINTED AS THE COMMAND ADVISOR AND ADVISORY TEAM LEAD TO THE AFGHAN ARMED FORCES ACADEMY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, A ROLE FOR WHICH SHE WAS AWARDED THE MERITORIOUS SERVICE CROSS. UPON HER RETURN TO CANADA, SHE JOINED 1 DENTAL UNIT IN OTTAWA AS THE CHIEF OF STAFF. IN FEBRUARY 2015, SHE WAS ASSIGNED AS DEPUTY COMMANDER TO THE CAF STRATEGIC RESPONSE TEAM ON SEXUAL MISCONDUCT TO ADDRESS THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE DESCHAMPS REPORT AND ESTABLISH OPERATION HONOUR. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY HER APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL ADVISOR TO THE NEW SEXUAL MISCONDUCT RESPONSE CENTRE. IN MAY 2016, SHE RETURNED TO THE HEALTH SERVICES FAMILY AS THE CF H SVCS GP CHIEF OF STAFF, ENDING HER MILITARY CAREER ON A HIGH NOTE.
  6. COLONEL FONTAINE IS FOREVER THANKFUL FOR THE FRIENDSHIPS AND UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES SHE ENJOYED ALONG THIS JOURNEY. RETIREMENT OF LCOL CARMEN MEAKIN, CD, PSYCHIATRIST

  1. AFTER 27 YEARS OF DEDICATED AND LOYAL SERVICE TO CANADA AND TO THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES, LCOL MEAKIN WILL RETIRE ON 15 JUNE 2018.

 

  1. LCOL MEAKIN ENROLLED IN THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES AS A RESERVIST IN 1991 AS A MEDICAL TECHNICIAN WITH 16 MEDICAL COMPANY IN SASKATOON. SHE COMPLETED HER 4 YEAR BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN ANATOMY (WITH DISTINCTION) IN 1997 AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN. A HIGHLIGHT OF HER RESERVE CAREER WAS AN 8 MONTH TASKING IN EUROPE AS PART OF THE CANADA REMEMBERS CEREMONIAL GUARD IN 1994 COMMEMORATING THE 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR. UPON THE COMPLETION OF HER UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE SHE WAS ACCEPTED TO MEDICAL SCHOOL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN.

 

  1. SHE ENROLLED IN THE REGULAR FORCE IN 1998 AFTER COMPLETING HER FIRST YEAR OF MEDICAL SCHOOL IN THE MOTP (MEDICAL OFFICER TRAINING PLAN) PROGRAM. UPON HER GRADUATION IN 2001 (WITH DISTINCTION), SHE BEGAN HER FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY IN THE RURAL MILITARY PROGRAM IN VICTORIA, BC (THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA). UPON COMPLETION OF HER RESIDENCY SHE WAS POSTED TO PETAWAWA TO COMMENCE HER CAREER AS A MILITARY PHYSICIAN. SHE WORKED WITH 1 RCR AND RCD AS A GDMO (GENERAL DUTY MEDICAL OFFICER). WHILE IN PETAWAWA SHE OBTAINED HER FLIGHT SURGEON QUALIFICATION BEFORE STARTING HER POSTGRADUATE TRAINING IN PSYCHIATRY.

 

  1. WHILE EMPLOYED AS A GDMO SHE DEPLOYED TO HAITI IN THE SUMMER OF 2004 AS PART OF A UN PEACEKEEPING MISSION AND FINISHED OFF HER CAREER AS A GDMO WITH A HUMANITARIAN MISSION WITH THE DART (DISASTER ASSISTANCE RESPONSE TEAM) TO SRI LANKA FOLLOWING THE TSUNAMI IN 2006.

 

  1. IN 2006 SHE RELOCATED TO OTTAWA TO COMPLETE HER RESIDENCY IN PSYCHIATRY THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA AND WAS POSTED, ONCE AGAIN, TO PETAWAWA WHERE SHE ASSUMED THE ROLE OF CLINICIAN WITH THE OTSSC (OPERATIONAL TRAUMA AND STRESS SUPPORT CENTRE), CLINICAL LEADER, AND CONSULTANT FOR THE RCAF IN AVIATION MEDICINE. SHE WAS POSTED TO OTTAWA IN 2014 AS THE CLINICAL LEADER FOR MENTAL HEALTH. HER OCCUPATIONAL TRAINING WAS HIGHLIGHTED AND CONCLUDED BY HER COMPLETING THE ADVANCED AVIATION MEDICINE COURSE HELD BY THE EAG (EUROPEAN AIR GROUP). OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS SHE CONTINUED TO WORK AT THE MONTFORT AS THE CLINICAL LEADER FOR MENTAL HEALTH, SHE REMAINED INVOLVED WITH RESEARCH, WORKING ON A PART-TIME BASIS ON VARIOUS PROJECTS AT THE DIRECTORATE OF MENTAL HEALTH, AND CONTINUING AS THE AVIATION MEDICINE PSYCHIATRIST FOR THE RCAF.

 

  1. LCOL MEAKIN IS APPRECIATIVE AND THANKFUL FOR THE FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES SHE HAS MADE ALONG THE WAY AS WELL AS THE SUPPORT OF LEADERSHIP. IT HAS BEEN HER PRIVILEGE TO SERVE WITH SUCH A WONDERFUL GROUP OF PEOPLE AND GRATEFUL FOR THE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES SHE HAS BEEN GIVEN WHILE SERVING IN THE CAF. SHE WILL BE JOINING HER HUSBAND JON IN RETIREMENT AND MOVING WITH THEIR TWO CHILDREN COLE AND CHARLOTTE (AGES 5 & 6) TO CALGARY THIS SUMMER IN SEARCH OF NEW ADVENTURES. SHE WILL CONTINUE WORKING ON A PART-TIME BASIS WITH OUR RETIRED SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN, POLICE, & RCMP AT THE OPERATIONAL STRESS INJURY (OSI) CLINIC IN CALGARY.

EN 1997, ELLE COMPLÉTA SON BACCALAURÉAT EN SCIENCES DE L’ANATOMIE (AVEC DISTINCTION) À L’UNIVERSITÉ DE SASKATCHEWAN. UN DES POINTS LES PLUS MARQUANTS DE SA CARRIÈRE DANS LA RÉSERVE FUT EN 1994, LORSQU’ELLE PARTIT EN EUROPE SUR UNE MISSION DE HUIT MOIS POUR COMMÉMORER LE 50IÈME ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA SECONDE GUERRE MONDIALE, DANS LE CADRE DE CANADA SE SOUVIENT AVEC LA GARDE DE CÉRÉMONIE. À LA FIN DE SON BACCALAURÉAT, ELLE FUT ACCEPTÉE À L’ÉCOLE DE MÉDECINE DE L’UNIVERSITÉ DE LA SASKATCHEWAN.

 

  1. ELLE S’ENRÔLA DANS LA FORCE RÉGULIÈRE EN 1998, APRÈS AVOIR TERMINÉ SA PREMIÈRE ANNÉE D’ÉCOLE DE MÉDECINE DANS LE PROGRAMME D’INSTRUCTION DE MEDECINE MILITAIRE (PIMM). À L’OBTENTION DE SON DIPLÔME EN 2001 (AVEC DISTINCTION), ELLE DÉBUTA SA RÉSIDENCE EN MÉDECINE FAMILIALE DANS LE CADRE DU PROGRAMME MILITAIRE RURAL DE VICTORIA, EN COLOMBIE-BRITANNIQUE (PAR L’INTERMÉDIAIRE DE L’UNIVERSITÉ DE LA COLOMBIE-BRITANNIQUE). À LA FIN DE SA RÉSIDENCE, ELLE FUT MUTÉE À PETAWAWA POUR DÉBUTER SA CARRIÈRE DE MÉDECIN MILITAIRE. ELLE TRAVAILLA AVEC LE 1 RCR ET LE RCD COMME GDMO (MÉDECIN GÉNÉRALISTE). À PETAWAWA, ELLE A OBTENU SA QUALIFICATION DE MÉDECIN CHEF AVANT DE COMMENCER SA FORMATION POSTDOCTORALE EN PSYCHIATRIE.

ALORS QU’ELLE FUT EMPLOYÉE EN TANT QUE GDMO, ELLE A ÉTÉ DÉPLOYÉE EN HAÏTI AU COURS DE L’ÉTÉ 2004 DANS LE CADRE D’UNE MISSION DE MAINTIEN DE LA PAIX DE L’ONU ET ELLE TERMINA SA CARRIÈRE DE CLINICIENNE DE SOIN PREMIER (GDMO) AVEC UNE MISSION HUMANITAIRE AVEC LE DART (ÉQUIPE D’INTERVENTION EN CAS DE CATASTROPHE) AU SRI LANKA APRÈS LE TSUNAMI EN 2006.

EN 2006, ELLE FUT RELOCALISÉE À OTTAWA POUR TERMINER SA RÉSIDENCE EN PSYCHIATRIE PAR L’ENTREMISE DE L’UNIVERSITÉ D’OTTAWA ET FUT MUTÉE, UNE FOIS DE PLUS, À PETAWAWA OÙ ELLE ASSUMA LE RÔLE DE CLINICIENNE AVEC LE CSTSO (CENTRE DE SOUTIEN DES TRAUMATISMES ET STRESS OPÉRATIONNEL), CHEF CLINICIENNE, ET ÉGALEMENT CONSULTANTE POUR L’AVIATION ROYALE DU CANADA EN MÉDECINE AÉRONAUTIQUE. ELLE FUT ENSUITE MUTÉE À OTTAWA EN 2014, EN TANT QUE CHEF CLINICIENNE DE LA SANTÉ MENTALE. SA FORMATION PROFESSIONNELLE FUT SOULIGNÉE PAR SON ACHÈVEMENT DU COURS AVANCÉ DE MÉDECINE DE L’AVIATION TENU PAR LE GAE (GROUPE AÉRIEN EUROPÉEN). AU COURS DES PROCHAINES ANNÉES, ELLE CONTINUA À TRAVAILLER À L’HÔPITAL MONTFORT EN TANT QUE CHEF CLINICIENNE DU DÉPARTEMENT DE LA SANTÉ MENTALE. ELLE RESTA IMPLIQUÉE DANS LA RECHERCHE, TRAVAILLANT À TEMPS PARTIEL SUR DIVERS PROJETS AVEC LE DIRECTEUR DE LA SANTÉ MENTALE (DSM), ET CONTINUA EN TANT QUE MÉDECIN PSYCHIATRE DE L’AIR POUR L’AVIATION ROYALE DU CANADA (ARC).
